Nokia Easy Meet: give your mobile phone real-time content sharing
At the very end of the 90’s you still had the excuse to remain unreachable for hours as mobile phones were THE hype device of early adopters or wealthy individuals. This was a blessed time.
Try and do the same today and you may lose your job or turn single…
Mobile phone has turned into a second nature. And when I’m travelling in public transportations, and I hear the familiar Blackberry ringtone announcing the fresh delivery of an email, it breaks to my mind that one day we won’t even be able to pretend that we didn’t see THAT email because we were not sitting at our desk…
Damn, the future looks gross for most of us (and our children)… But this was not the topic I wanted to thoroughly discuss in my post. Although…
The Nokia Beta Labs announced on Tuesday the launch of a new service for mobile users, Nokia Easy Meet, an intuitive collaboration tool that can offer real-time content sharing via both mobile devices and PCs.
See it the way you like, but it smells like, if Easy Meet meets (oh-oh) with success and becomes THE app to have on its mobile to conduct business meeting on the go, that our future is darker than I imagined (try to follow a ppt presentation from the screen of your mobile while dealing with the environment which surrounds you when you’re running to catch your cab)… from a mere consumer side this app has a nice potential all the more so as it is possible to connect any device which is able to run a web browser (smartphone, tablet, PC, etc). And here, sky’s the limit with what you want to do with this piece of software!

According to Nokia Beta Labs “no software download is required for any device. All you need is access to an Internet browser. From either a PC or a mobile device, the user simply has to enter the Nokia Easy Meet URL and then create a meeting. The service supports regularly scheduled as well as ad hoc meetings.
Once you create a meeting, the service sends out an email and/or SMS to each participant. With just one click, each participant can join the meeting and view the content shared by the host. Content can come directly from the host’s device or from remote servers (via OVI Files).
Unlike many other web-based collaboration tools, Nokia Easy Meet allows mobile devices users to fully participate in the service. Mobile device users can see, interact with, and share content directly on or from the device. By providing complete functionality to mobile devices, mobile participants aren’t at a disadvantage in the meeting setting.
The following features are currently supported by Easy Meet:
- File Sharing, supporting PPT, JPEG and PNG
- Chat
- Meeting Minutes
- Whiteboard
- Gesturing
- File Downloads
- Participant Awareness
- Remote Content Access (OVI Files).
- One click to join a conference, including voice conference
Nokia Easy Meet lets you collaborate for work or fun from anywhere, using any device you prefer (note: does not work with IE6)”.
