The absolut nirvana for a true dyed-in-the-wool urban nomad, is not to own the ultimate mobile gizmo to keep in touch with the outer world wherever he is; at least I guess… we all know that there will always be something better than what we currently have (that’s the rule of marketing!). And you generally don’t go mobile just to “enjoy” working on a 10 inches screen…
From a more philosophical perspective, I think that the absolut step is being able once to “carry” the World with you in your back pack or in your pocket to a tech-free location which is not over-saturated by radio waves and networks (call it “wild”, “desert” or “outer space”) and to have the power to create this spark of information just from the middle of nowhere. The voice of man.
And this is just about to happen to me in less than 48h from the wooden deck of the French Navy Shooner L’Etoile… (more here on the whys)
I will (try to) keep up blogging between April 26th and July 13th from a very peculiar location: The middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Of course our communication system does not allow us to access the full web as we’re used to in our day to day life (what a change!!). Just sending emails weighting less than 300ko through a satellite connection… But that’s just enough! And I’m not sure I’d want something more than that where I’ll be… I’m just concerned about keeping this blog interesting and entertaining enough while I’m away. But I am pretty sure that at least my twitter weekly updates will keep you awake!
Stay tunned for more updates, and fair winds and God speed to the crews of L’Etoile and La Belle Poule!
